Lynda "Cricket" Hackney,
RYT, Yoga Therapist, Nia Black Belt
Cricket began her yoga study in 1997
with a yoga book and a desire to deepen her spiritual
journey and improve her physical and emotional health.
She made a very conscious personal decision to actively
pursue a pathway to health and to find her way out of
a cycle of chronic disease and depression. As her health
slowly improved she began to study with various local
yoga teachers. After a workshop with Peggy Kelley of
Austin yoga school Cricket decided to take Peggy’s
yoga teacher training program. From Peggy she learned
the Iyengar approach to yoga alignment and form. Cricket
then went on to study with Michelle Andre of Priya Yoga
Dallas. With Michelle she found freedom of expression
in the yoga poses and an emphasis on breath and grounding
to fully release and find a deeper connection to joy.
Cricket completed the 200-hour level of teacher training
with Michelle in 2003 and went on to complete the 500-hour
yoga therapist program in 2005 with Michelle. Also in
2005, she completed training in Thai yoga massage with
Martin Misenhimer of Zen Thai Massage in New York.
Cricket began her Nia practice in
1998 and fell deeply in love with this joyful movement
practice. She took the White Belt Nia teacher training
in 1999, progressing through Blue, Brown and finally
Black Belt in 2006. She has studied Nia with its founders,
Carlos and Debbie Rosas, as well as with trainers Deb
Kern, Helen Terry and Holly Curtis.
